Students study a range of topics drawn from New Zealand and World history. These topics and studies aim to improve skills in gathering and classifying information, weighing evidence, recognising bias and propaganda, recognising differing points of view and different historical interpretations. Following on from Level 1 History, the major research component at this level, worth 9 credits, involves students researching different historic movements or a significant event and writing up or displaying their findings. Students have the opportunity to gain all their UE literacy credits through this course. The theme for this year is ‘Thinking like a Historian’.
