Food Technology

The Food Department offers both Food Technology courses and Hospitality courses. 

Food Technology offers Achievement Standards in which you can gain Merit and Excellence grades, subject endorsement and University Entrance pathways. It focuses on design thinking using creativity and experimentation to create a new idea. Topics include creating frozen meals for a food charity, designing a bread product influenced by International dishes and creating a pasta dish incorporating traditional Māori ingredients. 

Hospitality is a trade certificate course offering Unit Standards (Achieved only) and is focused on building kitchen skills and following a recipe. Topics include food safety, knife skills and baking. 

Both subjects have a even split of theory and practical work.
