Level 3 Advanced English for Scholars

This course is for students who are likely to study or need English at tertiary level. It is a highly academic subject that, as well as giving students the tools to function and excel in society, aspires to a “critical awareness”; meaning rather than just having the skills to “get by” in life, students gain the skills to question the world around them, engage with the great moral questions of life and play a part in shaping the world. This course is recommended for those thinking of taking Scholarship and allows for subject endorsement.
Note: Not all of the listed Standards will be covered – choices will be made in negotiation with the class teacher to a maximum of 22 credits. Subject endorsement possible.
Recommended Entry Criteria
Merit or Excellence, 14 Level 2 English Achievement Standard credits, which include passes in the Level 2 external exams in English. Teacher consultation and guidance at course selection time will be vital.
